I've put up a couple of new PDF's over at the Photogravure Repository page= http://photogravureinformation.homestead.com/INDEX.html
The first is the chapter on the photogravure process from Keepers of Light, late 70's by Morgan and Morgan. This work combined with Deli's photogravure chapter out of his Photographic Printmaking Techniques book are the seminal works of the modern photogravure movement that came charging back late 70's/early 80's. If you follow the info in these tomes, there is absolutely no mystery to the process. They both basically stress : Control your environment and materials. Period. Again, these both have to do with tissue that is no longer available, but it's darn good rules to follow regarding whatever folks may have leftover. The second is a studio manual I had written around 1997 based on these works plus some tricks I picked up along the way. Enjoy! -------------------- Craig Zammiello

Thanks for sharing these No Problem. Have to get some more stuff posted. I'll let the list know as I do. I've read the Jon deZote book. There are some discrepancies and a few fallacies, but it does also have some good info on the cross linking of dichromate in gelatin. And very, very good diagrams. Will post this too, if no one objects. Best, C -------------------- Craig Zammiello

Phritz, That's great. I personally will guide you through any obstacles you might come across. that's a promise! We want this community to grow larger and larger, and to make sure Dick has a steady supply of customers Photogravure is a passion to me. From the first etching I made in 1970, asking myself "there has to be a way to get a full toned photo in this process", to the day when it worked for me in 1981, I've been hooked. Your first step would be to find an intaglio studio. The process really calls for an etching press. Anyway, Thanks, Talk soon, C -------------------- Craig Zammiello

(his carbon prints were great too btw. the skin tones were most beautiful.). the workshop actually has etching presses, it even has a dust box. one day.... and hopefully this forum is still around. |

The forum will be around as long as I am and you folks keep posting. I try to participate and not let it be my blog. I tried the blog section once and no one commented back so I dropped it but may take it up again.
However, my next project is 4-color carbon. I have enough machines to handle it now. You should be hearing about that after the first of the year -- or earlier of possible. BtW. that guy on the left with the umbrella is from a shot I did in the early 70's on 5th st. LA. --D craig,

I've had some time to tune up this up so it works more like a website, and also added some old Kodak info on films for Gravure.
http://photogravureinformation.homestead.com/INDEX.html I'll be posting a section on photogravure misunderstandings there soon. That should be fun reading! Anybody have anything they may want to deposit there, just email me. Thanks, C -------------------- Craig Zammiello
